- Description
- The Office of the Cancer Information Service, located in the Office of Communications, National Cancer Institute (NCI), is responsible for the operations of the national Cancer Information Service (CIS) program, which includes regional CIS Partnership Offices and Coordinating Centers and the Publications Ordering Service. A critical component of support to the CIS is the development, implementation and maintenance of a technology infrastructure that enhances the day-to-day operating efficiency, cost effectiveness, quality and customer service of the CIS and NCI in delivering accurate and up-to-date cancer information to the public. The contractor shall support all aspects of this project and administrative assistance through its support contractor to NCI Division and Programs. This support includes responses to written, telephone and e-mail inquiries about cancer and requests for educational materials from patients and family members, the general public, health professionals, students, and educators. The Office of the Cancer Information Service is also responsible for the storage, inventory, and distribution of NCI publications. The contractor shall provide support by responding to requests to the NCI for information and publications and warehousing and distributing publications and materials on behalf of NCI. The contractor shall operate the Publications Ordering Service component of the CIS. The RFP will include one mandatory qualification criterion that offerors demonstrate the ability to provide materials/publications and be available for consultations with the National Cancer Institute within one (1) hour?s notice, provide immediate response to inquiries from Congress, the White House, and NCI staff and to facilitate frequent consultation with the Project Officers and other NCI staff. It is anticipated that one cost-reimbursement, completion type contract will be awarded for a five-year period with two ?award-term? options, with an effective date of January 11, 2005. The solicitation will be available electronically on or about January 5, 2004 with proposals due approximately 45 days following the actual date of RFP issuance.
