Description
The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) has an application for a portable computer/scanner system (hardware) to support document capture and translation in military field conditions. ARL requests information on existing systems available to meet the follo wing specifications: Portable computer/scanner system - Briefcase sized system to include: A Rugged laptop computer with a minimum 1.2GHz Pentium III processor; 512MB RAM; 12 inch diagonal daylight readable screen; 30GB hard disk drive; Operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Fahrenheit; Storage temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Fahrenheit; MIL 810 qualified; User operable while mounted in open briefcase sized enclosure; A Flat bed scanner requirements include - Extended temperature unit desirable (-20 to + 120 degrees Fahrenheit), not required; MIL 810 qualified desirable, not required; Minimum A-sized paper input capacity (Scan all of page in one process); Minimum scan resolution of 300DPI; User operable while mounted in open briefcase sized enclosure; Flat bed scanner to be mounted in a manner that provides protection from shock and vibration; Scanner to be powered from ruggedized laptop batteries; A wide-range AC/DC power supply to power all system components AC input from 90VAC to 260VAC, 50Hz and 60Hz operation; No configuration changes required for changes in AC input voltage or frequency; DC input from 12VDC to 35VDC; No configuration changes required for changes in DC input voltage; All required power cables provided in briefcase sized system enclosure; Fully operational while mounted in open briefcase sized enclosure; MIL 810 qualified; Minimum operating temperature range of -20 to + 120 degrees Fahrenheit; Minimum storage temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Fahrenheit; All components to be mounted in briefcase sized enclosure. All components to be operational as a system by user without removal from briefcase sized enclosure. While closed, the briefcase sized enclosure shall provide protection to the internal components from impact, shall provide resistance to dust infiltration, and shall prevent water due to rain or limited submersion from reaching components inside the encl osure. It shall be permissible for the briefcase sized enclosure to open fully (180 degree angle) in order to permit operation of equipment mounted in the enclosure. Maximum permissible system weight is 20 pounds.
