- Description
- This is a Pre-Solicitation Notice. There is no solicitation available at this time. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency plans to release a Program Research and Development Announcement (PRDA) on or about 10 January 2004. Research and Development is being sought in two Topic Areas: 1) Chemical Agent Defeat and 2) Decontamination Technologies and Methods. Each of the Topic Areas is briefly described below. Multiple awards are anticipated. 1. Chemical Agent Defeat: The objective is to develop fast-acting and lightweight systems that deny, render useless, neutralize, or otherwise destroy chemical agents and toxic industrial chemicals. For this announcement denying the utility of chemical agents and toxic industrial chemicals generally refers to removing or mitigating the actual chemical hazard through chemical or physical means. The chemical warfare agents of interest span multiple variants of G-type nerve agents, V-type nerve agents, non-traditional agents, vesicants, blood agents, choking agents and incapacitating agents. Technologies and methods are required that can address this breadth of properties, be able to destroy the chemicals in the presence and absence of other organic compounds, and be independent of the concentration of the agent of interest. As a result, the development of novel materials, delivery systems and methods are being sought. 2. Decontamination Technologies and Methods: The objective is to develop decontamination technologies and methods of chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals that are lightweight, rapid and can address multi-faceted missions, including personnel, sensitive equipment, electronics, vehicles, infrastructure, etc. Decontamination methods must be capable of removing chemical species from people and the surfaces/sub-surfaces of materials. Advancements in decontamination technologies and methods are required such that lightweight, rapid, and easy to use systems can be deployed. Specific information regarding the format of submissions, contents, schedules, and evaluation criteria will be provided with the PRDA. The estimated release date for the PRDA is 10 January 2004. This announcement in no way commits the Government to issue a solicitation or to make contract award(s).
