- Description
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a requirement to upgrade the SL-100 telephone system at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC). This upgrade will be accomplished by the purchase and installation of 4 new Intelligent Peripheral Modules (IPE). Southwestern Bell Communications (SBC) is the only known source for the acquisition and installation of the telephone systems hardware since they are currently on contract with the FAA for maintenance of the SL-100 telephone switch. SBC will coordinate/provide installation, testing, and documentation of the proposed system. As the FAA's provider for maintenance, SBC must do the planning and coordination of this hardware upgrade for compatibility with the existing hardware. The use of a "non-certified" vendor would void the FAA's maintenance agreement on the telephone switch and could cause major telephone outages at the MMAC.
