Description
The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA), acting as the operator of the Gemini Observatory, is seeking a vendor to design and fabricate the electronics to drive three deformable mirrors which will be used in the multi-conjugate adaptive optics system being built for the Gemini South telescope. The drive electronics will consist of high-voltage amplifiers, a digital interface to the control system, and cables and connectors. The three deformable mirrors have 208, 468, and 349 actuators, respectively, for a total of 1025. The mirrors use piezo-electric actuators at ?400 volts. The full requirements for this procurement, and instructions for submitting a proposal, will be given in a Request for Proposal to be released in the near future. Firms that are interested in receiving this Request for Proposal should fax (520-318-8590) or email (aflach@gemini.edu) a letter of interest addressed to ?Andrew Flach, Gemini Contracts Manager? by no later than 4 February 2004.
