- RFI - ACCESS CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES: DUE 15 MARCH 2004 - POC Contact Joey Pomperada, phone (843) 218-4528, email Joey.Pomperada@navy.mil - The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) Charleston is seeking information on all available commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies in the area of access control systems and devices, to include but not limited to identification cards (magnetic stripe, bar code, contact smart, contactless smart and proximity), card readers, card printers, biometrics, and the associated hardware/software for managing access control devices. SPAWAR is only interested in systems and devices that are currently available. Technology of use in port security and critical infrastructure protection applications is of specific interest. This information will be included in a compendium for use by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, civil disaster administrators, military disaster control personnel and area disaster/emergency response personnel. This new compendium will be in the publication, the Access Control Technologies Handbook that will be published by SPAWAR SYSTEMS CENTER CHARLESTON. Not all information provided will necessarily be included in this compendium. Determination as to information suitability will be made by SPAWAR based on the objectives of this request. The purpose of this compendium is to provide users a ready reference of available access control technology with sufficient insight into the capabilities and limitations of the various system and device technologies to enable them to select those access control systems or devices which best meet their needs. This compendium will be an unclassified document disseminated to federal, state and local agencies. All information received will be treated as public knowledge; therefore, vendors should not submit proprietary information in response to this RFI unless the vendor deems the information acceptable for public distribution. Specific information sought includes: (1) a description of the system or device -- size, weight, operating principles and parameters to include limitations and number of personal required to operate the system -- and its designated and potential applications; (2) cost, to include purchase price and expected operation and maintenance (life cycle) costs; (3) compatibility of the system or device with other access control and security technologies; (4) a listing of current users; (5) installation and support specifications and requirements; and (6) the name and phone number/e-mail address of the individual that potential users should contact for more information on the access control system or device; (7) Internet websites for publicly available product information and specifications; (8) Diagrams, drawings and photographs that would assist the user in understanding the system or device are requested as well. This announcement is for information gathering purposes only. Submittals: Respondents are welcome to provide information in the form of product brochures, press releases, technical specification sheets, independent assessment results, reprints of trade journal articles, etc, although electronic media are preferred (CD, diskette, or internet link). Submissions should include pertinent company information, including contact person, phone number, fax number, company website, and email address. This RFI is for planning purposes only, and should not be construed as a Request for Proposal (RFP) or solicitation of an offer. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI or otherwise pay for the information solicited.
