Description

USACE, Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) requires the service to (1) conduct both the fundamental and applied aspects of zero-valent treatment on bench scale to determine the factors affecting the optimum (economical and efficient) p erchlorate treatment, (2) to determine the kinetics of the iron-mediated reduction of perchlorate by different types of iron, (3) to determine the effect of surface area (including nano scale iron) on the extent and rate of perchlorate reduction, (4) to de termine the treatment efficiencies of both energetic compounds and perchlorate, and (5) to determine the physical-chemical parameters controlling the reduction of perchlorate in wastewater by zero-valent iron to delineate the optimum conditions for perchlo rate reduction. The period of service will be no later than 31 December 2004. The Contracts Office intends to negotiate a sole source, firm fixed-price purchase order with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delawar e in accordance with a pending patent. Request for W9132T-04-T-0049 will be issued on or about 24 February 2004 with a closing date of 1 March 2004.
