Description
The Interior West Forest Inventory and Analysis Program (IWFIA); Rocky Mountain Research Station; Forest Service, USDA; 507 25th Street; Ogden, UT 84401; requires Outfitter/Guide services (wrangler, riding stock/tack, packing stock/tack, transport, food, and gear) as requested below to visit from 0 to 25 Field Study Locations. Award will be made for the base year, but the Government’s retains the option for the Outfitter/Guide (herein referred to as Contractor) services can be renewed for up to four additional years without competition. IWFIA performs yearly inventories on forestlands within the Interior West. These inventories provide Congress and other research organizations with detailed information on the health, quality, quantity, and type of forests encountered in this Region. During the 2004 through 2008 summer field seasons, the IWFIA staff will have several production crews of two or three people each and a quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) crew of two people working in remote field situations. The work area to be covered consists of northern Montana on the LoLo, Helena, and Lewis and Clark National Forests (NF). The contract will be set up through our Ogden IWFIA office. Wilderness Areas and other roadless or travel-restricted areas comprise a substantial portion of the LoLo, Helena, and Lewis and Clark National Forests with much of the terrain being very wild, rugged, and remote. Wilderness designation restricts and, in most cases, prohibits the use of aircraft to access remote wilderness locations. Accessing these remote locations and performing IWFIA work would be virtually impossible without the assistance of wilderness guides and pack stock.
