Description
The incumbent will be a Senior Social Scientist within the Social Transition Team of the Office of Democracy Governance and Social Transition (DGST) within the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia (E&E). The Office of Democracy Governance and Social Transition, one of six in E&E, offices is responsible for democracy, governance, health, and social transition strategies and programs in the region. The Senior Social Scientist position is one of six team members in the area of social transition which include labor market transformation, education and training, social welfare services, pension reform and social insurance, social capital and values, and social protection and social organization. Each of the team members is expected to be a recognized expert in one of these six areas. The incumbent is expected to be an expert in the field of Social Protection and Social Organization will have responsibilities which include assessing social protection and social organization problems in the region, working with USAID Missions and other donors to develop solutions for these problems, and advising senior management within the Europe and Eurasia Bureau regarding what social protection and change problems may impede the overall transition to market democracies in the region.
