Description
19 Mar 2004 Electronic Systems Center, Operational Contracting (ESC/PKO) at Hanscom Air Force Base, MA seeks potential sources to perform a Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) service contract for AFRL/SNHC for the fabrication of various items composed of pure platinum and gold. Line Item 1: The platinum items are four large thimbles, or tubes, with one open end and the other closed. These will serve as material containment vessels for the testing of caustic solutions for the Air Force Research Laboratory exploratory and development work. The desired dimensions of the thimbles are 1.875? OD x 0.03? W x 12? L. It is estimated that each of the 4 units will have a weight of 794.50 grams, or a total of 3,178 grams, for 102.18 Troy Oz of platinum for this process. Next, there is a requirement for eight disk covers, which will serve as lids to cover the openings of the vessels. The required dimensions of the disk covers, which will serve as lids for the open ends of the tubes, are 1.875?D x 0.030? W. It is estimated that each of the 8 disk covers will have a unit weight of 30.400 grams, for a total of 243.2 grams, or 7.82 Troy Oz of platinum for this process. The Government will be furnishing the contractor with the pure platinum necessary to complete these objectives, which is a total estimated 109.99 Troy Oz. Line Item 2: AFRL/SNHC also requires that 1,000 standard slugs be fabricated from gold. The slugs will be used in an evaporation chamber and dispensed on devices such as computer chips. The required dimensions of each the gold slugs are 0.125? D x 0.25? L. It is estimated that each of the 1,000 slugs will have a unit weight of 1 gram, for a total of 1,000 grams, or 32.15 Troy Oz for this process. The Government will also be furnishing the contractor with the gold necessary to complete these items.
