Description
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ghana intends to issue a Management, Organizational and Business Improvement Services (MOBIS) Solicitation to implement its new Private Sector Competitiveness Strategic Objective, as described in the USAID/Ghana Country Strategic Plan (CSP) . The Strategic Objective (SO) focuses on increasing the competitiveness of Ghana?s private sector in world markets. It contains two Intermediate Objectives: (i) to improve the policy, regulatory and institutional enabling environment for private sector competitiveness and (ii) to strengthen the capacity of private sector firms and farms to compete in world markets, with a focus on selected non-traditional exports (other than the traditional triumvirate of cocoa, gold and timber). The priority policy and regulatory areas will be drawn from the Mission?s CSP. The Private Sector Competitiveness SO is based on three key themes: competitiveness in world markets, technological modernization, and integration of all levels of private sector activity into demand-driven, export-led growth. As an example of the success of past efforts, non-traditional exports (NTEs) have grown from $68 million in 1992 to $551 million in 2003; and the share of NTEs in GDP reached about 25% in 2002, up from 7% in 1992. The MOBIS solicitation also contains components to implement an Initiative to End Hunger in Africa (IEHA) program for Ghana. The anticipated release date for this (RfP) solicitation is on or about May 10, 2004. The solicitation will be posted to http://www.fbo.gov/ and open to approved MOBIS contractors. Organizations interested in this solicitation can receive information on becoming a GSA MOBIS contractor from www.gsa.gov. Be aware, however, that any applicant who submits a proposal but is not on the approved list as of August 13, 2004 will not be considered eligible.
