- Description
- The Maritime Administration (MARAD) is conducting a Market Survey to identify potential business sources possessing the expertise, capabilities and experience necessary to meet the agency?s requirement to provide conversion services for the Great Lake Maritime Academy?s (GMLA) state schoolship STATE OF MICHIGAN. The conversion is intended to accomplish an increase in accommodations and service infrastructure from about 39 persons to suit the GLMA?s anticipated complement of 80-85 persons; and to make modifications necessary for Great Lakes service, including full compliance with all local, state, Federal (U.S.), Canadian and International environmental requirements. In general, it is expected that the existing ship?s structure and arrangement will be retained to the greatest extent practical. The Awardee will be responsible for enlarging and outfitting the superstructure and modifying some (or all) existing staterooms to accommodate the desired complement. Construction of new superstructures are anticipated. Modification of the galley and messdecks to improve throughput and seating capacity. Evaluation of the capacity of existing refrigerated and dry stores. Expansion of the existing self-service laundry and/or provide new laundry facilities. Modify or install new auxiliary systems to suit the enlarged complement. In particular, provide additional capacity for black and gray water holding, and a Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) suitable for freshwater service. Provide training, administrative and recreation facilities and install additional SOLAS and USCG approved lifesaving equipment to suit the new complement. Additional lifeboats, liferafts and/or rescue boat(s) shall be provided as required. This is not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or an Invitation for Bid (IFB) and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The Government will not reimburse any contractor for any costs incurred as a result of participation in this survey. In addition, participation in this survey does not guarantee that your company will be able to participate in the resulting solicitation. The information provided will aid MARAD in the development of the acquisition strategy for this requirement, and will aid in the determination of any set-asides. The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) code to be used under the resultant solicitation will be 336611 ?Ship Building and Repairing?. Interested parties should submit an affirmative response in writing to barbara.gillum@marad.dot.gov stating company name/address, point of contact, phone number, email address and business size by 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time April 13, 2004.
