- Description
- Deployable Structures Experiment (DSX) Host Spacecraft Bus (HSB): The DSX is a space flight experiment currently in execution by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate. DSX is designed to conduct basic research experiments in 5 technical areas: 1) Large Deployable Structures, 2) System identification and adaptive control of the structural dynamics associated with large lightweight deployed structures, 3) Thin-film Photovoltaics, 4) Very Low Frequency (VLF) wave transmission and propagation in the magnetosphere, and 5) Space Weather. AFRL is requesting proposals (technical and cost) in response to this Broad Area Announcement (BAA). The objective of this BAA is the design, fabrication, environmental testing and delivery to AFRL/VS of a Host Spacecraft Bus with the capability to provide standard bus functions in support of the 5 DSX experiments. Integration of the HSB with the DSX experiments, integrated environmental testing, launch vehicle integration, and mission operations shall be performed by AFRL or designated contractor at Kirtland AFB. Innovation within the HSB development shall be directed towards lowering cost and increasing the responsiveness of both DSX and AFRL research and development (R&D) spacecraft in general. Key technologies may include standardized electrical and mechanical interfaces suitable to a range of potential experiments, designs that increase launch opportunities, and novel concepts that result in significant cost reduction. See attachments for further details.
