Description

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, intends to enter into a single source contract with Li-Cor Biosciences, Lincoln, Nebraska. This contract is to procure a LI-6400 Portable Photosynthesis System. This equipment is to be used in conjunction with another Government-owned LI-6400 System in the progressive research to select for improved carbon and water flux which requires accurate measurements of the light and dark reactions of photosynthesis. Parallel measurements of leaf gas exchange and quantum efficiency requires an instrument equipped with an infrared gas analyzer and a fluorometer and the parallel measurement of gas exchange and fluorescence is required so that in actinic light the leaves do not need to be dark adapted. This equipment will be used to screen a diverse array of plant materials that differ in tolerances to cold temperature and other environmental stresses, including herbicide damage. The capacity to take parallel measurements with two LI-6400 systems enables use for paired sampling at the same time. Data collected must be calculated using the exact same instrumental calculations of leaf photosynthesis and the instruments used must be totally compatible. *Provide Qualification Statement by Close of Business April 23, 2004, if interested in this procurement.
