- Description
- The Air Force Research Laboratory Propulsion Directorate, Power Division (AFRL/PRP) is announcing its? intent to conduct an Industry Day for the Power and Thermal Technologies For Air And Space--Multimegawatt Electric Power System (PTTAS-MEPS) Program on Thursday, 13 May 2004 at the Hope Hotel Conference Center in Fairborn Ohio, near Wright-Patterson AFB. Industry Day will consist of two sessions. The first session will be a program overview presentation to all conference attendees and will begin at 0800. The second session will consist of one-on-one discussions between the Government and interested parties/firms. These one-on-one sessions will be by appointment only. Appointments will begin immediately following conclusion of the Industry Day briefing and may overflow to the next day depending upon the number of responses received. The objective of the PTTAS-MEPS program is to develop and ground test a power system for airborne directed energy weapons. The power system includes the gas turbine drive, superconducting generator, and power conditioning system. The emphasis of the effort will be on the superconducting generator with an initial demonstration by the end of 2007 and a full power demonstration by the end of 2009 in an overall power system. The gas turbine shall be an existing gas turbine. The power conditioning system shall be traceable to a lightweight, efficient aircraft design, but for this effort is not required to meet these specifications. The Government anticipates one contract award with an estimated value of $22M for an approximate 5-year program The PTTAS-MEPS program will involve classified information as well as military critical technical data. The information presented during the Industry Day briefing will be unclassified. However, Military Critical Technical Data will be discussed therefore, only U.S. contractors who are registered and certified with the Defense Logistics Services Center (DLSC), Federal Center Battle Creek, Michigan 49017-3084 (800-352-3572) that have a legitimate business purpose will be permitted to attend. Interested parties/firms are required to pre-register to attend the Industry Day briefing and pre-schedule the one-on-one sessions.
