Description
The U.S. Government is seeking information on potential candidates for immediate procurement or rapid development of a kit to lighten the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Multi-Role Anti-Armor Anti- Personnel Weapon System (MAAWS) M3 Carl Gustaf Rifle. The current MAAWS program is the Non- Developmental Item (NDI) acquisition of the Saab Bofors Dynamics Carl Gustaf 84mm recoilless rifle system. The U.S. Government does not own data rights to the system which consists of the M3 Carl Gustaf System and family of munitions. USSOCOM has a need to reduce the weight of the M3 Carl Gustaf System. The overall weight reduction of the M3 should be a minimum of 3 lbs. with a desired weight reduction of 5 lbs. The weight reduction should be achieved without any changes to the steel liner in the existing M3 Carl Gustaf System. The weight reductions must not affect the overall Center of Gravity (CG) of the rifle. Because the Government does not own data rights to the weapon, potential offerors must request required weapon data from Saab Bofors Dynamics, Karlskoga, Sweden. The lightening of the M3 shall not affect its safety or ruggedness when exposed to the rigors normally associated with military operations, including air delivery and salt water submersion. A fully developed kit is desired, development effort not to exceed 16 months to delivery of production configuration is acceptable. In response to this survey, information shall be provided on the following areas and topics. Additional information and topics are also encouraged. All responses to this survey must be in the English language. All responses must be in Microsoft Office compatible form and no longer than 25 total pages including all diagrams, drawing, etc. Item Status: Information shall be provided that shows item production status or how each component weight will be reduced. It shall include information on the design, fabrication and tests conducted or to be conducted to validate the design. Component compatibility with the Bofors M3 Carl Gustaf system must be specifically addressed. Cost/Schedule: Actual or expected production unit costs for each kit shall be provided. If development is required, projections of development costs shall be provided. The time required to deliver ten sets of test items shall also be provided.
