- Description
- The Federal Aviation Administration conducted a NADIN MSN market survey initiated by announcement 2990 on 3/11/03. This market survey asked for alternatives to replace the existing NADIN message switching equipment, known as ???NADIN I???, ???NADIN IA???, or the ???Message Switching Network??? (MSN). Alternatives explored included: (1) Sustainment defined as the FAA (AOS-550) technical effort rewriting the existing MSN software into a higher-level computer language running with a COTS operating system on a new COTS hardware platform. (2) Procurement of a new NADIN message switch, (3) Acquiring the message switching functions from a service provider. With little schedule risk and implementation possible in 2005, sustainment will be the NADIN MSN short-term (for the next five years) solution. However, sustainment is not the planned NADIN MSN long-term (five to ten year) solution. The intention is to initiate the three to five year acquisition management process for NADIN MSN. Due to the current reorganization within the FAA, it has not been determined what FAA organization will be responsible for the NADIN MSN effort. If there are questions concerning this announcement, contact Dixie Harper at (202) 493-5940.
