Description
DESCRIPTION: The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center (AMRDEC), Redstone Arsenal, AL, is seeking domestic sources of information on current or very near term technology that can be applied in the engineering, design and development of a quick action Safe and Arm Device (SAD) for a U.S. Army ground vehicle munition to be used in urban operations. The purpose of this request for information is to identify S AD solutions that are applicable to this munition and that have a potential for rapid development and production. The baseline requirements of the munition quick action SAD are: 1) Safety Criteria. Potential SAD solutions must comply with applicable saf ety standards such as MIL-STD-1316 and STANAG-4187, except for safe separation criteria. 2) Possible SAD Arming Environments. a) Munition Acceleration: 6,000-10,000g??????s for 2-4 milliseconds; b) Launch Chamber Pressure: 6-10ksi for 2-4 milliseconds; c) Munition Deceleration after Launch: 2-5g??????s; d) Munition Velocity: 100-200 m/s. 3) SAD Performance. a) Arming ?????? SAD solutions should arm within 10-30 milliseconds of launch; b Fuzing ?????? a SAD trigger signal interface must be provided an d described for a target detection or fuzing method yet to be determined; c) Detonation/Initiation ?????? single point; d) Detonator/Initiator Output ?????? output must be sufficient to initiate PBXN5 booster of 1.1 inch diameter, 0.6 inch width; e) Detona tor/Initiator performance parameters (i.e., repeatability, simultaneity, etc.) should be described. 4) Volume. Total volume should be less than or equal to 4.5 cubic inches. Diameter should be less than or equal to 2 inches. 5) Power. Power is not rea dily available on the munition. Fuze power could be derived of ground vehicle power or of a separate power source dedicated to the SAD. All dedicated power source considerations must adhere to the SAD volume constraints. Interested and capable sources a re asked to submit a white paper containing a description of appropriate technologies that they possess, or are conducting, and how these technologies could be applied to this project. Responses should be made within thirty (30) days from publication of t his notice. Of additional interest are the internal technical capabilities of the interested party in the above described activity. Responses to this request for information may not be submitted by fax or by electronic means; any so sent will be disregar ded. Send five (5) copies of written responses to the attention of U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, AMSAM-AC-OS-RBB/Building 5400, (Ms. Patsy Garrison), Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898-5254. Technical questions can be addressed to Mr. Gene Henderson, U .S. Army RDECOM, AMRDEC, Propulsion and Structures Directorate, Redstone Arsenal, AL, 35898, telephone: (256) 842-9101, fax: (256) 876-9861, e-mail: milton.henderson@us.army.mil. This is for information purposes only. This request for information does not constitute an Invitation for Bids or a Request for Proposal, and it is not a commitment by the U.S. Army to procure products or services. The GOVERNMENT DOES NOT INTEND TO AWARD A CONTRACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS REQUEST FOR INFORMATION OR OTHERWISE PAY FOR THE INFORMATION SOLICITED. However, the Government may subsequently issue a Request for Proposal which could lead to award of a contract for the development and production of a suitable SAD.
