- Description
- The USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), National Design, Construction, and Soil Mechanics Center, located in Ft. Worth, TX intends to solicit bids to develop NRCS concrete design criteria that will become Chapter 30, Cncrete, National Engineering Handbook, Part 636, Structural Engineering (NEH 636.30). The criteria contained in the new NEh 636.30 will replace existing NRCS contrete design criteria. In addition to the development of NEH 636.30, it is required to prepare and provide PowerPoint-based presentations on the new criteria at two workshops to be sponsored by the NRCS. Coordination, correspondence, reproductions, workshop facilities, and notification of workshop attendees will be the responsibility of the NRCS. NEH 636.30 will contain details for the design of conventionally reinforced and plain concrete structures and structural elements. Most of the NRCS structures are considered environmental or hydraulic concrete structures such as those used for conveying or storing water, wastewater, or other materials such as solid agricultural waste. Criteria for these type structures will parallel ACI 350-01. NRCS also utilizes traditional structures that are not required to meet the environmental/hydraulic structure standards. Criteria for those structures will parrallel ACI 318-02. Design information will be in sufficient detail to provide thorough design instructions and examples, along with basic concrete design concepts in a manner that is equivalent to a basic level textbook on concrete design. All mathemathical details and examples are to be presented in both U.S. customary units and metric units. The two workshops will be the instrument used to introduce NRCS engineering personnel to the requirements presented in NEH 636.30. Each seminar is expected to require 2 business days. The period of performance for the successful contract is 480 calendar days after contract award.
