Description
The US Army Product Manager Individual Weapons (PMIW) is conducting a market investigation to identify possible sources of a training simulator to be used in force-on-force training that has the capability of simulating the effects of the XM29 Air Burst Weapon System. The XM29 is a dual weapon system that combines 5.56mm kinetic energy ammunition in a direct fire role and 25mm high explosive air burst ammunition (HEAB) in an indirect fire role. This indirect fire role allows for the engagement of targets in defilade (i.e. behind walls, trees, vehicles, in trenches, etc). The weapon system utilizes a ruggedized, compact, single, integrated full solution day/night target acquisition/fire control (TA/FC) capable of operations in all environments. The TA/FC will have a direct view powered optic mode, thermal sighting mode with automatic, ballistically adjusted reticles. It will include a laser range finder, a compass, cant and tilt, an environmental sensor suite; a fuze setter and an internal display. It will incorporate a full ballistic algorithm to facilitate accurate placement of the airburst munition on target incorporating data from the environmental and attitude sensors. The proposed solution must include the integration of the HEAB simulation module with the current Modular Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) used by the US Army for 5.56mm weapons. It is anticipated that the integration effort will take no more than eight (8) months and the test effort take no more than six (6) months. Two (2) sets of training simulation systems will be purchased for a Government conducted test and evaluation program. The contractor is required to provide hardware support during the testing. The system selected must already be in production to allow for the integration and test effort. This market survey is for information purposes only; this is not a Request for Quotation. No solicitation document exists. All interested firms, foreign and domestic, regardless of size, are encouraged to respond to this request for information. Any response to this market survey shall not exceed 20 pages. Interested firms should submit their information no later than 10 May 2004 to the following address: PM Individual Weapons, ATTN: SFAR-SDR-ICW, Mr. Andrew Cline, Bldg. 151, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey 07806-5000. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government. The Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part any private sector input as a result of this market survey. SEE NOTE 26.
