- Description
- The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Program Support Center is soliciting proposals from interested academic health centers (AHCs) located in the Public Health Service Region VIII which includes Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. (If you are an academic health center not located in Region VIII, please see the announcement posted under Solicitation Number 04T004033.) The purpose of this project is to select one AHC in Region VIII as a demonstration project for rural women?s health programs in the development of a National Center of Excellence (CoE) in Women?s Health. The CoE program is a national model program to advance women?s health care. The CoE model includes a comprehensive, coordinated, and integrated gender-based program in five key areas: leadership development and mentoring; professional education, especially incorporating allied health professionals; community outreach; clinical care; and gender-based research. None of the current CoEs are located within the boundaries of Region VIII and no AHC meets the criteria to be designated a CoE. Therefore, the Office of Women?s Health (OWH) shall provide technical assistance to develop a model program in any of the AHCs in Region VIII that best meets the criteria and is closest to having a model CoE program within their institution. Emphasis will be given to those serving rural areas and diverse populations, especially American Indians. Funds are provided by the OWH. The Government anticipates making an award to be effective September 30, 2004. The period of performance shall be for a one-year base period with three one-year option periods. Solicitation Number 04T004034 will be made available on the Federal Business Opportunities website approximately 15 days after publication of this notice.
