Description
The Combating Terrorism Technology Support Office of the Technical Support Working Group solicits response from any party interested in the licensing and production of a small portable tester to detect tri-acetone tri-peroxide (TATP) explosives. The tester has been prototyped, and is now ready for commercialization for use in the U.S. for all U.S. bomb technicians and other law enforcement agencies. The PET prototype is a small tapered cylindrical device that contains three expendable test chemicals. A sample is collected or swiped with a silicone rubber based test pad, which is reinserted into the device. The three test chemicals are injected sequen tially. If TATP is present, the resulting solution turns a green-blue color. Only trace amounts will provide a suitable indication. In its current prototype form, the tester is approximately 6 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. Miniaturization design will be required to reduce the size to approximately that of a large diameter ballpoint pen. The most probable licensee will be a manufacturer of medical devices, as this device resembles specialized medical injection devices in much of its design. In addition , proper labeling will need to be developed. A patent for PET has been applied for. A Technology Transition Plan, data package, and license application are available for review by interested companies. Any company interested in the licensing, production, marketing, and sales of this device is invite d to send a notice of interest via e-mail to the following address: TechTrans@TSWG.gov.
