Description
NAICS Code: 541380 The U.S. EPA National Risk Management Research Laboratory, located in Ada, OK requires the services of a qualified contractor to identify and enumerate algae collected from nutrient enrichment studies. Water samples with associated algae have been collected from 1 gallon containers that have been part of a nutrient enrichment study. These samples were immediately preserved with Lugols solution and stored in a cold room (4oC temp). The 1 gallon exposure chambers were dosed with varying levels of nitrogen and phosphorus to evaluate the effect of differing ratios of nutrients on these algal communities. The research interest is to determine if differing levels and ratios of nitrogen and phosphorus will structure the receiving water algal community in a predictable manner. The results from this analysis will be used in support of research conducted by the USEPA to evaluate the of changing nutrient amounts and rations coming off restored and unrestored watersheds as well as developing a decision support system for how restorations aimed at nutrient sequestration on the watershed will affect the resulting water quality and algal community structure of receiving water bodies The contractor shall perform the following tasks on approximately 450 samples provided by the Government: 1. Mount and identify the number of algal species present in each sample. Algae will be identified into groups by genus and species. 2. Enumerate the number of algal cells in each taxonomic group and provide a tally of the total numbers of each genus and species for each sample. 3. Develop a representative reference collection for these samples. 4. Provide data report that lists all the identified taxa and the corresponding numbers at each site. This report will also include information regarding QAQC for the analysis and identification of the algal species for each sample.. 5. Provide data report in both hard copy and electronic version in standard, off the shelf software applications (i.e. Lotus 123, Microsoft Excel, Word Perfect, Microsoft Word). This acquisition is designated as a small business set aside under NAICS code 541380. The acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. It is anticipated that a Request For Quotation (RFQ) will be issued on or about July 15, 2004. To receive a copy of the RFQ, interested firms must submit a written request to Mr. Josh Bowers (bowers.joshua@epa.gov) by 2:00 PM EST WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, 2004. Requests submitted via email are preferred or a fax is acceptable. The fax number is 513-487-2109. Requests must include company name, mailing address, fax number, and email address.
