Description
NAICS Code: 541990 The National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ground Water and Ecosystems Restoration Division (GWERD) is seeking an individual at least 18 years of age who is a recent graduate of an accredited Master of Science degree program in Biology or Microbiology within the last two years to provide services under a contractual agreement in support of research concerning the microbiological impact of concentrated animal feed operations and subsurface remediation of chlorinated ethenes in source areas and dissolved plumes by microbial degradation. Location of service is Ada, OK. The Ground Water and Ecosystems Restoration Division is responsible for conducting research on subsurface remediation and ecosystem restoration for the protection of ground water, surface water and drinking water resources. The recent graduate will perform molecular analysis and develop procedures for the isolation and identification of Dehalococcoides ethenogenese from ground water using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques. The recent graduate will also identify human enteroviruses (poliovirus, coxsackievirus, echovirus) and the bacteria Yersinia enterocolitica and Campylobacter jejuni. This work is expected to begin approximately August, 2004, and continue for a base period of twelve (12) months, to end approximately August, 2005, approximating 1928 annual hours. An optional performance period of twelve (12) months will begin August, 2005, and continue through August, 2006, aproximating the same number of hours. U.S. citizens are eligible to participate in this program. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to participate, depending on their immigration status and the applicable regulations of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service (BCIS,) formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Recent graduates who are EPA ORD employees, or the spouse or child of an EPA ORD employee, are not eligible to participate. The graduate contractor is considered as an independent contractor; therefore, Federal, State, Local, Social Security, and Medicare taxes will not be withheld. Student/recent graduate contractors are responsible for reporting income to authorities and paying all taxes. The applicable NAICS code is 541990, Other Professional, Scientific and Technical Services. A Request for Quotation (RFQ) will be issued, subject to full and open competition among qualified graduate students, on or about July 19, 2004.
