- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Water Resources Division (WRD), has a requirement for water quality monitoring systems, probes, and related parts. Equipment shall include YSI 6600 with dissolved oxygen probe, rapid pulse DO probe, ph/ORP probe, turbidity probe, flying lead adapter, 650 handheld unit with barometer, field cable, 690 sonde weight, conductivity/temperature probe. The YSI equipment was found to provide the most accurate measurements of dissolved oxygen, a critical water quality parameter for the protection of aquatic life. These are non-stirring units and will not interfere with data collection (D.O. and p.H) readings. This is an important advantage, as our fieldwork will be conducted in waters with dense submerged vegetation where apparatuses such as stirrers are easily fouled or jammed by plant debris YSI technology includes certain "fail-safe" features including a constant readout of "dissolved oxygen charge" to determine when this probe requires maintenance and a low-battery shut off capability. Based on the information available at this time and in accordance with FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the equipment as a sole-source from Yellow Springs Instruments 1725 Brannum Lane, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 or from an authorized dealer as approved by YSI, and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Vendors who feel that they can furnish the equipment are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and other materials that correspond to the required services stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. No solicitation document exists, therefore, requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. See numbered note 22. Responses to this notice must be submitted via e-mail to: dlromero@usgs.gov by 08/29/2004.
