Description
THIS ACQUISITION IS A TOTAL SMALL BUSINESS SET-ASIDE. 57 acre timber stand improvement project located on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation, near Ignacio, Colorado. The project includes: (a) Trees to be cut are precommercial sized trees 24??? or taller up to approximately 9 inches stem diameter at 4.5 ft. and not containing a merchantable 16 bole to a 6??? top d.o.b. or 20 board feet minimum. Pinyon and Juniper trees not designated with yellow paint within the leave tree marked block or Pinyon and Juniper trees designated with blue within the cut tree marked block. (b) Felling trees shall be cut below the lowest live limb and at a point not more than six (6) inches above the ground. Top of stumps will be as flat as possible. Felled trees shall be completely severed from the stump and laid on the ground. Felled trees shall not be left leaning against or hanging in another tree. Care shall be taken to avoid felling trees on structures or improvements in the thinning area. Directional felling shall be used wherever possible to facilitate planned mechanized slash treatment. Felling shall be directed so that stems are laid perpendicular to slope contour (up and down hill). (c) Treatment of slash shall be hand piled or windrowed. All trees boles shall be bucked into lengths not to exceed 8 feet. This material will either be piled or windrowed if less that 8??? d.o.b., or left accessible to mechanized equipment. Slash consisting of material less than 8??? d.o.b. will be piled or windrowed neatly in openings, avoiding close proximity to crop trees to facilitate burning of the piles. No constructed pile or windrow shall extend laterally to within 10 feet of the crown perimeter of any crop tree. Hand piles shall not exceed 8 ft in height and 12 ft. in diameter. Nor shall hand piles be smaller than 4 ft. in height and 8 ft in diameter. Windrows shall not exceed 10 feet in width. Length of windrows may vary so that canopy openings may be fully utilized to provide for windrow placement. Slash will be moved at least ten (10) feet from fences. Slash will be moved at least ten (10) feet from perennial streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes. Slash may be left in intermittent natural drainages. Slash shall be completely removed from all road right of ways. Topography is variable terrain. Slopes vary from 10-45%+.
