- Pre-Solicitation Notice ? Childs Glacier Recreation Area Redevelopment ? Cordova Ranger District, AK The Chugach National Forest Cordova Ranger District is anticipating the issuance of a solicitation for the expansion and reconstruction of the Childs Glacier Recreation Area. Funds are not currently available for this project but are anticipated to be received in FY 05. The Request for Proposal, specifications and drawings will not be released until funds become available. The Government is issuing this notice to allow interested firms the opportunity to view the project site prior to inaccessibility due to winter and inclement weather. Specific work includes reconditioning and resurfacing of existing roads, construction of new roads and camping spurs, furnishing and installation of site improvements including picnic shelter, picnic tables, fire rings, bear-proof garbage containers, bear-proof food lockers, road gates, kiosk and fee station, traffic control signs, water well, and government-furnished vault toilets. Work also includes demolition, removal, and disposal of existing gates, signs, vault toilets, campsite spur post markers and miscellaneous items. Work activities include clearing and grubbing, site demolition and rehabilitation, excavation and embankment, crushed aggregate surfacing, concrete work, carpentry, metal fabrication, and painting and staining. Childs Glacier Recreation Area is located at mile post 48 of the Copper River Highway approximately 45 miles northeast of Cordova. Access to the project site is by unpaved road. Work is estimated to start in the spring of 2005. Estimated magnitude of construction will be between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. Award of this project to be accomplished under Full and Open Competition, pursuant to the Small Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program. A site visit will be held on 19 August 2004 at 11:00 am at the Childs Glacier recreation site parking area.
