- This is a Request for Information The Golden Field Office (GFO) of the Department of Energy is interested in the development of a hydrogen fuel cell car "kit" for possible use. Said kit most conform to the specification sheet listed below. Hydrogen Fuel Cell Kit Specifications The proposed fuel cell will be used for model car race events for the Department of Energy?s Annual Science Bowl Competition. The target audience is middle and high school students and teachers. Each Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Kit shall consist of one fuel cell, one motor, tubing and valves in accordance with the following specifications: Fuel Cell * The fuel cell will be arranged in a stack that will produce 3 watts with an output voltage of not less than 2.5 volts * The fuel cell must be reversible * The fuel cell must operate at 90% power at a minimum of 1? water pressure for the supply gases * The fuel cell must have robust threaded posts for electrical connections with a minimum of 1/8? in diameter where an alligator clip can easily connect to the posts * The fuel cell must have 1/8? flexible plastic press fit hose barbs for gas and water connections * Lightweight construction is critical to maximize performance for the model race cars Tubing * Supply 2? per kit of 1/8? inside diameter silicone tubing Valves * Supply 4 stopcock valves with plastic press fit hose barbs that work with the tubing Motor * 1.5 to 3.0 volts, 3 watts or best for output of the fuel cell * Shaft diameter 1.5-2.0 mm ? 2.0 mm preferred * Motor diameter 25-35 mm * Current from 1 amp to 1.5 amps * Stall torque of 125 gm-cm * No-load speed of 5000 rpm The students will use the kit in their model car which they will build and design. GFO will need to know a wide variety of pricing and production time data. GFO wants to know the cost and production time required to produce one demonstration model. The cost and production time required to produce 1-250 kits. The cost and production time required to produce 251-400 kits. The cost and production time required to produce 401-500. The cost and production time required to produce 501-600 kits. The areas that will be used in evaluating responding contractors are listed in order of descending priority (criterion 1-4). 1. Fully meets all outlined specifications 2. Quality of workmanship 3. Price 4. Weight of each kit This action is a Request For Information ONLY. The Government does not presently intend to award a contract, but wants to obtain price, delivery, other market information, and/or capabilities for planning purposes. The Government will not pay for any costs associated in response to this Request For Information. Responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract.
