Description
The SMA Project (http://www.SMAProject.org) is currently requesting proposals for a facility or facilities to provide (1) efficacy testing of compounds in mouse models of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and/or (2) the prerequisite in vivo pharmacologic, pharmacokinetic, and toxicologic studies that are necessary for the design and commencement of efficacy testing in mouse models of SMA. (Please note that prerequisite in vivo pharmacologic and toxicologic studies are NOT pivotal preclinical studies performed under Good Laboratory Practices [GLP].) Offerors may submit proposals to support either or both mouse testing facility services. Proposals are due on September 8, 2004. Proposals and accompanying documents can be accessed through the ?Open Solicitations? page of the SMA Project website (http://www.smaproject.org/Solicitations/opensolicitations.htm). The National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/) launched The SMA Project: A Collaborative Program to Accelerate Therapeutics Development for Spinal Muscular Atrophy in September 2003. This program funds milestone-driven research aimed at identifying and rapidly developing a treatment for SMA, a paralyzing neurodegenerative disease of childhood. Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is supporting the NINDS in the management of this program. Any responsible Offeror may submit a proposal to be considered by SAIC.
