- Description
- The Department of Veterans Affairs Employee Education System is seeking sources for health care compliance training to take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 15-18, 2004. The required training shall include the development and/or enhancement of core knowledge and skills required to perform the duties of a compliance officer and receive appropriate certification. Examples of requirements that need to be included in the training are the Department of Health and Human Services? (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities, the Privacy Regulation issued under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and the Administrative Simplification requirements of the same Act. Like other health systems, VHA operates a Compliance and Business Integrity (CBI) Program patterned after the HHS OIG Compliance Program Guidance for Hospitals, 63 FR 8987 (February 23, 1998), and the HHS OIG Compliance Program Guidance for Third-Party Medical Billing Companies, 63 FR 70138 (December 18, 1998). VHA CBI Officers are appointed at each VISN, medical center, and at some outpatient clinics. The course needs to contain the following content : Introduction to Compliance Practice; Risk Assessment; Organizational Ethics; Compliance Infrastructure; Human Resources; HIPAA/Compliance; Education and Training; Coding/Reimbursement; Legal Issues ? Risk Factors/Disclosure Items; Auditing/Monitoring; Internal/External Investigations; Regulatory Update; Billing ?
