- Description
- The U.S. Department of Labor?s Bureau of Labor Statistics is the principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics. The BLS is an independent national statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes and disseminates essential statistical data to the American public, the U.S. Congress, other Federal agencies and local governments, business, and labor. This mission is supported by contracts for goods and services, which must be acquired and managed with the highest professional standards. Total cost for this requirement will NTE $12.000. The HACU intern will work with senior Contract Specialists in the day to day duties involving the acquisitions stated above. This includes learning and using an electronic procurement system to process simple purchase orders. Going further professionally, the intern will assist in the senior specialist in the planning, execution, and award of contract actions. While the intern can not by law hold any Federal contracting authority, the intern will assist in the creation and management of the official legal contract file, be responsible for mandatory components of the official legal file, assist in the research and formal responses to inquiries under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and perform computations of bids and pricing offers from vendors; these are significant responsibilities requiring a mature and businesslike approach to work (as this is a business office of the Federal government representing the Bureau to private sector vendors, the intern is expected to dress appropriately). In addition, the intern will be given every opportunity to observe and assist in dispute resolution, terminations, and settlement agreements, as events allow. It is the intent of the above to give the intern experience in a real-world, professional Federal contracting office, performing real and necessary work in an actual business environment, thereby enriching the experience for both the intern and the Bureau. This notice of intent is not a request for offers. A determination not to compete this proposed procurement is solely within the discretion of the Government. There is no RFP notice. For information purposes only.
