- Description
- NAICS Code: 541710 THIS IS A PRE-SOLICITATION SYNOPSIS FOR STUDENT LABORATORY SERVICES TO BE HIRED ON A CONTRACT BASIS BY THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. The solicitation number is UUX208 (RFQ-RT-04-00420). EPA's Office of Research and Development is the scientific research arm that designs, conducts, and transfers sound science to a variety of customers within and outside of the EPA. The National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), one of seven components of EPA's Office of Research and Development, is the laboratory that conducts research and development that leads to improved methods, measurements and models to assess and predict exposures of humans and ecosystems to harmful pollutants and other conditions in air, water, soil, and food. The communication of science, especially of exposure research, which is a slice of the overall understanding of environmental processes and protection, is particularly challenging for EPA's scientists and potentially confusing or abstract for various audiences. The NERL's communication and outreach program works with scientists and their managers to identify appropriate venues and audiences for outreach materials. This includes press events, meetings and conferences, and recruitment fairs. Communication and outreach products include one-paged internal fact sheets, biographies on accomplished scientists, brochures about specific research programs, publications in plain English about research findings, slide presentations to describe the laboratory, and webpages. The Immediate Office of the Laboratory Director is seeking a student to provide support to NERL in the areas of technical writing and editing, meeting logistics and support, curriculum development, and NERL Image Library. A first possible assignment is to develop a set of brief profiles on selected scientists and their research areas based on face-to-face or phone interviews. All technical questions are to be forwarded via email to the Contract Specialist at the following e-mail address: clausen.rebecca@epa.gov. Interested parties should review all material relevant to the requirement by looking under Request for Quotation section of the EPA's website at the following address: http://www.epa.gov/oam/rtp_cmd. These solicitation documents will be posted to that website 15 days after issuance of this pre-solicitation synopsis. Interested parties should go to the website and click on the link entitled "Student Services UUX208, RFQ-RT-04-00420" to check the status of this procurement and to ascertain when and if any amendments have been issued.
