- Description
- The U.S. Army, TACOM-ARDEC has a requirement for an initial quantity of three thousand (3,000) M249 Improved Bipod Assemblies to be procured in FY05. In addition there may be four subsequent options with a potential of either 1,000?3,000 or 3,001?6,000 Improved Bipod Assemblies per option. The Improved Bipod Assembly attaches to the front part of the M249 Machine Gun and provides the capability for achieving accurate, sustained fire from a prone position, rugged one-hand adjustable legs, and a capability to adjust the firing position of the weapon without moving the bipod legs. The Improved Bipod Assembly legs can also be stowed and retained securely without interfering with either optical devices or other accessories mounted on the weapon forward rail assembly. The Improved Bipod is envisioned to be NC machine fabricated. The materials to be used in fabrication include 4140 Alloy Steel, 1015-1018, 1020-1026 Type 2, 1060-1090, 1070-1095 Carbon Steels, and 300 and 416 series Stainless Steels. Various heat treatments, stress relieving, and final surface protective finishes are required for these materials. Some welding is required. The final assembly shall have a protective finish lusterless black in color. There are no cast parts and none are desired. No deviations to the drawing materials, treatment, or finish will be permitted. The contractor shall fabricate the item in accordance with U.S.G. drawings, inspect them in accordance with U.S.G. Quality Assurance Provisions (QAP), and package them in accordance with U.S.G. Special Packaging Instructions (SPI). The contractor must be able to sustain a delivery schedule of 250 Bipod Assemblies per month with possible increase to as much as 500 Bipod Assemblies per month. There will be a First Article Test quantity and requirement to pass First Article prior to approval for full production. The competitive RFP will be available for download on or about August 26, 2004 at http://procnet.pica.army.mil.
