- In the second quarter of CY 2005, the Naval Sea Systems Command intends to issue a solicitation for the System Development and Demonstration (SDD) (with a Low Rate Initial Production option) of a precision-guided, extended range munition to be fired from the Navy's 5 inch MK 34 Gun Weapon System. The projectile must have a length less than or equal to 61 in., weigh less than or equal to 110 pounds, employ GPS/INS guidance, be lethal against a variety of target types including trucks, personnel, SAM Radar and artillery and meet or exceed key performance parameters. Threshold values are as follows: Delivery Accuracy - less than or equal to 20M CEP (jamming and non-jamming environment); Rate of Fire - 5 rounds per minute minimum; Minimum Range - less than or equal to 15 nmi; Maximum Range - greater than or equal to 41 nmi; Time of Flight - less than or equal to 5 minutes at 41 nmi. The Navy has not defined specific evaluation criteria. However, criteria under considera! tion include, but are not limited to, the following: ability to meet key performance parameters; development cost and schedule risk for the SDD phase, assessment of maturity using standard Technology Readiness Level methodology; projected unit production cost (UPC); ability to meet performance requirements within cost (both development and UPC) and schedule constraints; cost to modify complementary systems required to field the capability (specifically gun weapons systems, fire control systems, platform and magazine modifications, and Naval Fires Control System modifications), and feasibility of implementing product improvement initiatives..
