- MT PFH 73-1(5), PIONEER MOUNTAINS SCENIC BYWAY, Beaverhead National Forest, Beaverhead county, Montana. This modification is issued to: (1) Change response date to 12/1/2004; (2) Correct project name to: Pioneer Mountains Scenic BYWAY; (3) Provide a Second Notice to Prospective Bidders as follows: August 2004, SECOND NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE BIDDERS: Project: MT PFH 73-1(5), Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway, Solicitation No. DTFH70-04-B-00003. THIS NOTICE IS TO ADVISE you of the possible delay of the issuance of this solicitation until the winter of 2004/2005 when viewing of the project will not be possible due to snow cover. Prospective bidders are encouraged to view the project prior to winter snowfall. A gate will be closed and locked on December 1st thus preventing the viewing of the upper portion of the project. It is possible that snowfall would necessitate an earlier closing. Preliminary plans were made available on October 16, 2003 to aid prospective bidders in identifying the location and type of work. Unfortunately, the expected solicitation has been unavoidably delayed due to environmental consultation. Consultation is now complete and the affected changes are being made to the solicitation. These 2003 preliminary plans still convey the overall intent of the project and will assist you when you view the project site. While it is not required, we highly recommend that you videotape the entire project for your use during the estimating phase. We have had good feedback from contractors who have done this in the past. No Federal Highway Administration personnel will be available for show-me tours. This project is located approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) northwest of Dillon, Montana, in Beaverhead County. The project begins at the intersection of Maverick Mountain Ski Area and Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway (otherwise known as Wise River-Polaris Road) and ends at the summit near Price Creek. No signs have been erected to identify the project extents. The project consists of grading, drainage, base, paving roadway and turnouts, and construction of two bridges. It was designed using metric measurement and references the Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects, FP-96.
