Description
This is a combined synopsis/solicitation/notice of intent for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Part 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only notice of intent and a written notice of intent will not be issued. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Spectra-Physics Inc. The notice of intent number being issued as NOI4114. This Notice of intent document and its incorporated provisions are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 01-24. This acquisition will be processed under Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) and is not a small business set-aside. The associated North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code 334510, which has a business size standard of 500. The NIAID intends to procure Mai Tai BB-Laser. The NIAID has been studying what cells in draining lymph nodes present antigens to primary CD8 + T-cells following infection with various viruses, whether exogenous or endogenous proteins are presented to primary ant-viral CD8 + T-cells and how these factors change with virus type and forms of antigen encoded by the virus. Intravital microscopy is essential to obtain knowledge of the actual presentation events that occur in vivo. To examine cells even as close as a couple hundred of microns beneath the surface of a lymph node, multi-photon microscopy is necessary. The laser request is necessary for the upgrade of the Leica confocal microscope to multi-photon capability. It provides an extremely wide tuning range of wavelengths with high average powers and extremely high stability. This intravital microscopy is performed as part of Project No. Z01-AI 000814-06-LVD, Virus induction of primary CD8+T cell responses. Place of delivery NIH/NIAID, Bethesda, Maryland 20892.
