Description
The United States Forest Service Law Enforcement & Investigation team has a requirement for a video surveillance system that can meet the following criteria: 1) Smaller is better in terms of theft prevention, versatility and portability. Often multiple systems must be stealthily deployed in areas accessible only by foot or on horseback. 2) Mini-DV NTSC recording format. 3) PIR sensor should be designed for outdoor deployment, be easy to conceal and have a high nuisance alarm immunity yet high probability of detection at 100 feet at 80 degrees F. 4) Transmitter range should exceed 100 feet in dense undergrowth. 5) A field test module should provide visible and/or audible feedback on sensor operation. 6) System should be field programmable. 7) Systems with additional programming features available via PDA interface should utilize the Palm OS for compatibility with FS contract PDA?s. 8) Open architecture allowing use of alternate sensor types for special application including Eagle Telonics Systems developed by USFS. 9) Time windowing to select and deselect time periods. 10) External Charge-Coupled-Device (CCD) Camera and systems should be compatible with the near infrared illuminations systems for deployment in low-light situations. 11) Power management should allow operation for a period of three weeks at 20 degrees F. without the use of large external deep cycle marine or gel-cell batteries or other large power sources. 12) CCD should have high horizontal resolution imager greater than 420 lines suitable to subsequent forensic video processing. For technical questions please contact Terry D. McGaha, Law Enforcement & Investigations, (505) 842-3187.
