Description
The National Institute of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), on behalf of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS), Laboratory of Functional and Molecular Imaging (LFMI) intends on entering into a sole source contract with Medrad Inc., One Medrad Drive, Indianola, PA 15051 for the purchase of a Medrad Spectris Solaris MR Injection System. The acquisition is being processed using procedures under FAR 12 acquisition of commercial items. The LFMI began operation in 1999 and performs research in neuroimaging, primarily based on Magnetic Resonance (MR) related techniques. In addition to the development of novel neuroimaging applications, LFMI is involved in the development of basic technology. The purchase of the Medrad Spectris Solaris is compatible with existing NINDS MR suite and will maintain continuity of user interface. The Spectris Solaris will enable the NINDS to develop fast imaging techniques that will improve MRI resolution during bolus contrast injections. This is the only power injector approved up to 3 Tesla, that has been FDA approved for the MR environment and does not produce any artifacts on images. Medrad, Inc. is the only source known to NCI/NINDS researchers that can provide a system which will meet the required needs of the MRI Facility. This is not a request for competitive procurement. However, if any interested party believes it can provide an item with the above features it may submit a capability statement. The capability statement and any information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail with the necessary documentation to allow the NCI/NINDS to determine if the party can provide the above system. An original and two copies of the capability statement must be received in the contracting office by 1:30 PM EDT on September 13, 2004. Questions should be directed to Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent or Renita Smith, Contracting Officer on 301-402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The NAICS Code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employee. Please reference RFQ-NCI-40155 on all correspondence.
