- Description
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), Radiation Biology Branch (RBB), Biophysics Section (BS) intends to procure on a sole-source basis with Resonance Research Inc., Pinehurst Business Park, 10 Cook Street, Billerica, MA 01821 for a resistive dipole magnet and integrated gradient coil. The Biophysics Section investigates various ways of imaging tumors with regards to the measurement of vital process, in development of novel treatment strategies for cancer patients. The BS is working on the ability to non-invasively measure the complete oxygen map of a tumor and its surrounding normal tissue. The Biophysics Section?s research on this project has come to a point where continuing this research requires a more powerful homogeneous magnet and gradient system to advance their imaging achievements. The new resistive dipole magnet has a stability of +/-3 ppm and an integrated gradient coil system strength of 150 mT/m. Current research has been done on a Resonance Research GMW model 5451 50 mT air core resistive unit with integrated shielded gradient coils (50mT/m). The entire unit was operated with software developed by the RBB branch explicitly for these components. The Resonance Research Inc. dipole magnet and integrated gradient coil are compatible with the existing equipment and the only system known to the researcher that would not be disruptive to his experiments or the integrity of the experiments. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can meet all of the above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI researcher to determine if it can meet the above unique specifications. This acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 12 ? Acquisition for Commercial Items and will be made pursuant to the authority in FAR 13.5 to use simplified procedures for commercial acquisitions. An original and one copy of the capability statements must be received in the Contracting Office by 1PM EDT (local Washington, D.C. time) on September 10, 2004. All questions must be in writing and may be emailed to Debbie Moore at dm170b@nih.gov or faxed (301) 402-4513. It is the vendor?s responsibility to call (301) 402-4509 and verify that questions were received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. NAICS: 334516; Size Standard is 500 employees.
