- Description
- The Applied Research Program within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Science, National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health, plans to negotiate with the School of Public Health, University of California at Los Angeles, a contract for a twenty-month base period and 4 options for renewal to conduct a state-wide health interview survey in California, called the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS). The information to be collected will assist in measuring the burden of cancer in the population of the United States because it will enable better estimates of health related behaviors and cancer risk factors for small racial-ethnic minority populations. NCI anticipates conducting comparative analyses with the CHIS and National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data. California, the most populous state in the nation, is also the most racially and ethnically diverse. One-third of Asians living in the US are resident in California and California has the largest urban Indian population of any state in the US. Due to the rich diversity of the California population, data will be collected on a randomly drawn sample and it will not be necessary to over-sample to obtain detailed information on specific populations and/or health topics. Specific populations of interest include Asians, Native Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders and Africian Americans. With these CHIS data, NCI anticipates improving its estimates for cancer risk factors and screening among racial-ethnic minority populations. Analyses will provide county-level and ethnnic group-specific information on cancer prevention and control behaviors and health services utilization, and will examine factors responsible for underutilization of preventive services. The statutory authority for the noncompetitive acquisition is 41 USC 253(c)(1) as set fort in FAR 6.302-1(a)(2). See Numbered Note 22. No collect calls will be accepted
