Description
The United States Tank Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) will be issuing a sole source Request for Proposal to Alcoa Technical Center, Alcoa, PA, for continuation of technology development for the Army Lightweight Aluminum Structures Initiativ e. This initiative is to improve the performance and survivability of various vehicle platforms via weight and/or cost reductions. Phase I of the requirement is to perform an analysis to determine which components may be good candidates for redesign. Ph ase II will utilize the contractors expertise in lightweight aluminum structure technology to develop and evaluate conceptual designs based on the results of the components selection process. The third phase will be the finalization of the design concept s and analysis to prove the effectiveness of the design and redesigns. A fourth phase will consist of development and evaluation of physical prototypes of the finalized design in order to verify the advantages of the components. The final phase will be t he development of a production fabrication plan to include a production flow path and the production launch plan. This requirement will be acquired as a cost reimbursable contract from Alcoa. The period of performance is 36 months from the date of award. This requirement will be solicited by a formal request for proposal (RFP). While this RFP is being issued on a sole source basis, any interested party may obtain a copy of the RFP by going to http://contracting.tacom.army.mil. All solicitations issued on or after 1 Apr 1999 require offerors to submit their offers paperless: only electronic format will be accepted. Contractors will be required to submit their response in one of the following electronic mediums: via e-mail, 3 inch disk, or 650 MB CD ROM. Offers are to be e-mailed to offers@tacom.army.mil. Do not e-mail offers to the buyer. Thee subject line of the e-mail submissions must read OFFER  W56HZV-04-R-0938. Maximum size of e-mail offers shall not exceed 3.5 MB. Compressed files must be se lf-extracting and have appropriate instructions to open. Hard Copy responses will not be accepted. Please make sure this agency has been furnished with the following information: CAGE, Company Name, DUNS number and the e-mail address where you would like the notice sent. All offerors must be registered with the Central Contractor Registration prior to receiving any award. See the website at http://www.ccr.gov for information on how to register. The estimated release date of the RFP is XX XXX 04. Numbe red note 22 applies.
