- RESPONSE DUE NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 20, 2004 A project in Sierra County, California, is tentatively scheduled for advertisement in early Spring 2005. This advanced notice is being given because weather and site conditions may prevent contractor viewing at the time of advertising for bids. Representatives from the Federal Highway Administration will be conducting an informal project showing on Tuesday, October 26, and Wednesday, October 27, 2004. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended to enable prospective bidders to familiarize themselves with the project scope prior to snowfall. Prospective bidders should plan to meet in Bassetts at the parking lot located at the intersection of Gold Lake Road and Highway 49 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Preliminary plan sets (approximately 75% complete) will be available for review during each day of the project showing but must be returned by 3:00 p.m. the day of attendance. No discussions will be held during the project showing. Questions will only be accepted in written form via e-mail addressed to: Gene.Dodd@fhwa.dot.gov. Questions and responses will be posted to web address: www.cflhd.gov/procurement/preshowbid.cfm and included in the final advertised solicitation package. The work involves a proposed project for restoration, rehabilitation, grading, drainage, pavement cold recycle and overlay with hot asphalt concrete pavement, obstruction removal and guardrail on CA FH 24, Gold Lake Road, in cooperation with the US Forest Service and Sierra County. This project begins at the intersection of Forest Highway 24 and Highway 49 in Bassetts, California, and proceeds in a northerly direction for approximately 12.6 km (7.8 miles) through the Plumas and Tahoe National Forests, ending at the Plumas County/Sierra County line. Major bid items include: Survey and staking (various); lump sum contractor testing; soil erosion control (silt fence, sediment logs and check dams); 11 ha clearing and grubbing; 4,750 m3 roadway excavation; 559 m3 placed riprap (various); 2,800 metric tons roadway aggregate; 11,529 metric tons hot asphalt concrete pavement; 2,500 metric tons hot asphalt concrete; 12.6 km continuous cold recycled asphalt base course; 480 metric tons emulsified binder agent; 4 each concrete headwalls (various); 344 m pipe culvert (various); 18.7 m reinforced concrete box culvert (single barrel); 38 each catch basin; 5,750 m asphalt curb (various); 4,310 m guardrail system (wood posts); signing and temporary traffic control.
