Description
THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, NAVAL EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL (EOD) TECHNOLOGY DIVISION IS REQUESTING INFORMATION FOR LATHES, MILLING MACHINE HEAD WITH COLUMN, AND TOOLS DESIGNED AS COMBINATIONS OF THE TWO. IF LATHE AND MILL ARE SEPARATE ENTITIES, THE INTENTION IS THAT THE TWO WILL BE INTEGRATED TOGETHER AS A SINGLE TOOL. DESCRIPTIVE LITERATURE TO INCLUDE PRODUCT DATA SHEETS, AVAILABILITY, RELIABILITY, MAINTAINABILITY, WARRANTY, POINTS OF CONTACTS, AND PRICING INFORMATION FOR COMMERCIAL AND NON-DEVELOPMENTAL MACHINE TOOL SYSTEMS ARE REQUESTED. FOR EASE OF SHIPPING AND ASSEMBLY, IT IS PREFERENTIAL THAT THE TOOL IS ABLE TO BE SHIPPED AS A SERIES OF BOXES, WITH THE HEAVIEST BOX NOT EXCEEDING 270 LBS. DESIRED SYSTEM PARAMETERS INCLUDE: (1) TOTAL SYSTEM WEIGHT IS DESIRED TO BE LESS THAN 1300 LBS (2) CENTER TO CENTER DISTANCE OF 35-40 INCHES, (3) SWING SHOULD BE 12 TO 13 INCHES, (4) MINIMUM TORQUE GENERATION OF 150 FT LB VIA LATHE MOTOR, OR, A BED MOUNTABLE TORQUE MULTIPL! IER IN CONJUNCTION WITH LATHE MOTOR, (5) QUILL TO (LATHE) BED DISTANCE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 18.5 INCHES, AND (6) REMOTE OPERATION VIA CABLED HAND CONTROLS. AS A PARALLEL ALTERNATIVE TO HAVING A STANDARD HEADSTOCK WITH COMPLETE GEARING, IT IS REQUESTED THAT THE OPTION OF A HEADSTOCK HAVING THE GEARS REMOVED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE LOWEST GEAR RATIO BE REVIEWED AND CONSIDERED; ALSO, AS AN ADDITIONAL PARALLEL ALTERNATIVE IT IS DESIRED THAT THE OPTION OF REPLACING HEADSTOCK WITH A BED MOUNTABLE MOTOR TO ACHIEVE REQUIRED OUTPUT TORQUE BE REVIEWED AS A CONSIDERATION. WITH RESPECT TO REMOTE CAPABILITIES, A CNC RETROFIT MIGHT SEEM TO BE A LIKELY CANDIDATE FOR MOTOR CONTROL, THE POTENTIAL VENDOR SHOULD KNOW THAT IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO HAVE CANNED CYCLES, OR THE FINE DEGREE OF PRECISION. WHAT IS REQUISITE IS REAL TIME MANIPULATION VIA HAND CONTROLS. DESIRED SYSTEM CAPABILITIES: (1) REMOTE MILLING/DRILLING VIA MILL HEAD (2) REMOTE TORQUING OPERATIONS, (3) REMOTE CUTTING WITH LATHE. THE INFORMATION FROM THIS MARKET RESEARCH EFFORT WILL BE UTILIZED TO UNDERSTAND COMMERCIALLY AND NON-DEVELOPMENTAL ITEMS' ABILITY TO MEET THE PROJECTED NEEDS. COMMERCIAL AND NON-DEVELOPMENTAL, FOR THIS REQUEST, INCLUDE SYSTEMS THAT ARE STILL IN DEVELOPMENT BUT WILL BE AVAILABLE APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH FROM SOURCES SOUGHT PUBLICATION DATE. DESIRED SYSTEM PARAMETERS DO NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENT THE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CAPABILITIES. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT SERVES TO SURVEY PRODUCT AVAILABILITY AND IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS.
