- The U.S. Army TACOM-Picatinny intends to award a sole source contract for the manufacture of approximately 200 projectiles and engineering services in support of the Joint Ballistic Memorandum of Understand (JBMoU) Compliance Testing of 155 BONUS Projectile. Projectile hardware of various configurations will allow a thorough assessment of: safety, ballistic solution (firing tables), Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and training resources (models, etc.) In addition, engineering services will facilitate witness testing, test planning and evaluation of test results, and support for the Army Material Release activities. This assessment and evaluation will determine whether the U.S. Army 155mm Howitzer Systems can fire the 155 BONUS. The end result would be a ?Release for Use? of the Projectile to U.S. Army Field Artillery Units, allowing ammunition sharing during coalition operations. No projectiles will be part of the U.S. Army inventory as a result of this effort. The contract will be awarded on a sole source basis to United Defense (UDLP), 4800 East River Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55421 under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, avoidance of duplication of cost and unacceptable delays in fulfilling the agency?s requirements. GIAT Industries and Bofors Defence are subcontractors for this effort. See notes 22 and 26.
