- SCOPE OF WORK SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT & PARKING LOT REPAVING Trust Fund Building 214 North Kanawha Street Beckley, West Virginia • All sidewalk replacement shall be Monolithic pour with 2 foot turn down curbs. Sidewalk Replacement Along Building 1. Protect all adjacent surfaces 2. Jackhammer and remove existing sidewalk along building 3. Load and haul away all concrete rubble to a legal dump site 4. Regrade the subgrade; install crushed stone base to bring up to grade 5. Fine grade and compact to prepare for new concrete sidewalk 6. Install expansion joint material; wire mesh reinforcing 7. Pour a minimum of 4 inch concrete sidewalk slab 8. Neatly edge and joint concrete in a professional manner to standards of the trade 9. Finish the surface with a medium broom texture for a non-slip finish 10. Seal entire surface with sealer to promote curing and protect from salts 11. Remove all form; clean up all adjacent surfaces 12. Leave AMA broom swept Lower Level Sidewalk 1. Provide traffic control; barriers, caution tape and cones 2. Remove existing railings 3. Jack hammer and bust up existing concrete walk and turn down 4. Excavate a footing approximately (125) feet long to support the turn down on the back side of walk 5. Form up a low concrete wall doweled into the footing 6. Back fill, grade, and compact interior of walk 7. Install expansion joint, wire mesh and rebar reinforcing 8. Pour 4-inch thick concrete sidewalk neatly edged, jointed and broom finished 9. Remove all forms, clean-up and haul away all trash and debris Handrails for Lower Level Sidewalk 1. Install sockets for installation of handrail posts; sockets shall be installed not to exceed four foot centers 2. Bases of sockets to be square plated 3. Pipe handrails shall be fabricated to line railings of tubular steel with a minimum wall thickness of 3/16 inch. 4. All welds to be traced and filled welded; slag chipped, wire brushed 5. Prime paint all exposed metal with red oxide primer 6. Apply two coats of industrial enamel 7. Clean and haul away all trash and debris 8. Handrails shall meet applicable building codes. Additional Sidewalk Work 1. Remove and replace (15) foot section of curb at front entrance and the left side 2. Repair cracks in sidewalk at rear of building sidewalk 3. Repair spalling at rear dock around handrail posts 4. Replace curb along driveway where settlement has occurred, approximately (12) linear feet Remove Culvert Grates 1. Jackhammer to remove old concrete trench drain 2. Set forms; tie #5 rebar to reinforce concrete 3. Fabricate 2 x 2 x 3/16 inch Steel Angle Iron Grate Frame with integral rebar anchors 4. Set frame for proper alignment 5. Pour 4000 PSI concrete air entrained 6. Remove forms; clean up and haul away all trash and debris 7. Back fill around new trench drain with crushed stone compacted Driveway and Parking Area Resurfacing Repave and stripe parking lot according to attached specification. DRIVEWAY AND PARKING AREA RESURFACING EXTENT OF WORK Provide all labor, supervision, materials and equipment to perform all work required to resurface driveway and parking areas with bituminous concrete at the Trust Fund Building, Beckley, WV. The area to be resurfaced is approximately 8927 square feet. MATERIALS Materials shall be commercially available products of reputable manufacturers and shall be approved prior to use by Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR) Bitumen used as prime coat and in bituminous concrete shall be compatible with the existing bituminous concrete pavement and shall be a first line product as produced by Keppers Company Inc., Philip Carey Company, Johns-Manville, or an approved equivalent. Bituminous concrete shall be compatible with existing and shall be a dense-graded bituminous concrete mixed in the proportions used by, and in a plant approved by, the local street or road jurisdiction. Temperature at time of application shall be between 225 and 325 degrees Fahrenheit. WORKMANSHIP All work shall be coordinated and scheduled with the COTR and COTR has the right to reject any unsatisfactory or unsuitable material or workmanship. Any damage caused by the Contractor to the building, and of its contents or tenants shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to correct in a timely manner. All work shall be accomplished in accordance with the best practices of the trade. --PREPARATION—Sweep clean all areas to be resurfaced and apply a prime coat compatible with the existing bituminous concrete. Apply prime coat at the rate of 0.25 to 0.35 gallons per square yard.  All bumper stones to be removed before and reinstalled after resurfacing. --APPLICATION/SPREADING – Spread the bituminous concrete so that the compacted thickness will be (1 1/2) inch. If spread by hand, the material shall be dumped on steel dump boards outside the area and spread by using hot shovels and rakes. Roll with an 8 ton roller where possible and tamp other areas. --Total application (for two coats) shall be not less than 0.2 gallon per square yard, applied in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. PAVEMENT MARKING All work shall be performed by journeymen painters under the supervision of a competent foreman. In the acceptance or rejection of work, no allowance will be made for the lack of skilled workman. Applications shall not be made when weather conditions are rainy or foggy, or when ambient or pavement temperatures are below 45 degrees F nor when such conditions are anticipated within 24 hours. Driveway and lot areas to be striped shall be swept clean of dust and loose material and shall be dry at the time paint is applied. Contractor shall make a record of existing painted traffic lines, etc., before resurfacing. New traffic lines, shall be placed in the same location as existing traffic lines. Existing handicapped spaces to be marked with standard size wheel chair handicapped insignia in center of space with blue traffic paint. All stripes shall be four (4) inches wide. Apply paint at rate of approximately 200 square feet per gallon. A second application will be required if complete coverage is not obtained with one application. Protect paint from vehicle and foot traffic a minimum of 24 hours. PEDESTRIAN AND/OR VEHICULAR TRAFFIC PROTECTION Contractor shall put suitable barriers around all work areas for the protection of pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic.
