- Description
- The Food and Drug Administration intends to award a Purchase Order on a sole source basis to the Slone Epidemiology Unit of Boston University for research services for the project: “Prevalence of use of analgesics in the United States Adult and Pediatric Population”. The present research proposes the acquisition of US population estimates of analgesic use for the purpose of quantifying the problem of adverse drug events related to analgesic use. The purpose of this project is to assess the national incidence rates of ADEs presenting to EDs associated with OTC analgesic use, using numerators taken from NEISS-CADES and denominators taken from the Slone Epidemiology Unit’s household survey. This represents the Agency’s first use of ADE data collected through active surveillance, and its first attempt to quantify patient-level OTC drug exposure. The Contractor shall provide ODS with estimates of the prevalence of analgesic use in the United States for both adults and children during the six month time period from November, 2003 through April, 2004, inclusive. Specifically, the Contractor shall provide the following data elements for this time period: 1. Prevalence of use of the following analgesics: a. Acetaminophen: Single ingredient, Multiple ingredient products (e.g., cold preparations); b. Ibuprofen: Single ingredient, Multiple ingredient products; c. Aspirin: Single ingredient, Multiple ingredient products; d. Naproxen: Single ingredient, Multiple ingredient products . 2. Prevalence of use of concomitant medications (both prescription and OTC) containing the same analgesic for each of the analgesics in 4.1. 3. Prevalence of use of the analgesics in 4.1 according to prescription/OTC status. The above data items shall be provided by the Contractor for all persons (i.e., all ages, sex, race/ethnic groups combined); females and males; race/ethnic groups; and for the following age groups: <12 years, 12-17 years, 18 – 64 years, 65 and above years The Contractor shall provide evidence of the quality of the data. An award will be made in ten (10) days from the date of this notice. This is not a request for quotes; however, sources may submit descriptive literature, which fully demonstrate their capabilities, which will be considered by the agency. This sole source procurement is being awarded as a simplified acquisition in accordance with FAR Subpart 13.5.
