Description
This project is for the construction of an approx 120' long, 6' wide hiker/stock bridge. It will probably have concrete spread footings w/3 steel girders, timber deck & railing. It is anticipated that the bridge will be designed with 2 splices in each girder with each girder section weighing approx 4,000 lbs. The east side will have a short approach. Project is not in wilderness, mechanized equipment will be allowed on site. All bidders should be aware that a final decision to build the bridge at this site awaits completion of the NEPA process. Project is being advertised to allow prospective bidders the opportunity to visit the site before winter conditions prevent access. The solicitation will be issued during the winter months. Estimated start work date is approx April 1, 2005 with project completion date approx May 27, 2005. The Government's estimated price range is between $100,000 to $250,000. Bonds will be required for this project. THIS IS PROJECT IS 100% SET-ASIDE FOR HUBZONE SMALL BUSINESS CONCERNS. To reach project site, from Newhalem, WA take State Route 20 east approx 10 miles to the Colonial Creek Campground. Hike the trail up Thunder Creek approx 3/4 mile to the old crossing location (washed out Oct 2004 by a log jam). Follow blue flagging up the west side another 3/4 mile to the bridge site where Abutment #1 is staked (Sta 1+00). There are two alternate alignments (A & B) which are about 14 degrees apart. A is more perpendicular to the creek and B is skewed approx 30' upstream at Abutment #2. Abutment #2 (east side) is adjacent to the Thunder Creek Campground. Note: The trail to Abutment #1 will be constructed by Natnl Park Svc crews in Spring of 2005 but may not be done prior to bridge construction. For technical questions, please contact Craig Holmiquist, (360) 873-4590 ext 25 or Peter Wagner, (360) 856-5700 ext 311.
