Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has a requirement for four (4) Coated Glass Super Mirror Guides for the NIST Center for Neutron Research?s Multi Axis Crystal Spectrometer (MACS). This is a third generation cold neutron spectrometer that is to be installed on the NG0 beam line of the NBSR neutron source. The instrument will feature one of the most intense monochromatic cold neutron beams world wide and an innovative multi-channel monochromatic detection system. These features will make this instrument a unique facility for probing nano-scale dynamics in solids. This requirement shall be for a test sample and a total of four (4) pieces of specially coated glass. The four coated glass super-mirrors shall be mounted directly to the MACS instrument so as to form a converging funnel with a rectangular cross section. The coated surfaces shall be on the inside of the funnel. The coated glass surfaces help to reflect neutrons towards and thereby enhance the flux on the sample position. To improve the signal to noise ratio the substrate material shall have high boron content. Detailed drawings, including threaded attachment points, shall be provided along with the solicitation. ***FOB shall be DESTINATION, Gaithersburg, MD. ***The NAICS code for this requirement is 334516, with a small business size standard of 500 employees. This acquisition is unrestricted and all interested parties may submit a quote. ***This equipment, which is classified as commercial equipment, will be competed using Simplified Acquisition Procedures under Authority of FAR subpart 13.5 Test Program. ***The competitive Request for Quotation (RFQ), specifications, RFQ amendments, and all questions and answers related to this procurement shall be made available via the Internet at HTTP://WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV under RFQ number SB1341-05-Q-0126. ***The RFQ is anticipated for release to the vendor community on or about November 24, 2004, and will only be available via the Internet at the above web site. ***Potential offerors are responsible for accessing the web site. Interested parties must respond to the RFQ in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract. No written solicitation document is available, telephone requests shall not be honored, and no bidders list shall be maintained. Potential offerors are requested to direct all questions via e-mail to Erin.Schwam@NIST.Gov.
