Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service invites Invitation for Bids for the chipping or grinding of vegetation to create approximately 84,017 linear feet of firebreaks on the Chesapeake Marshlands National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Dorchester County, Cambridge, Maryland. The approximately 32 acres at 11 different locations requiring firebreaks are flat, low lying land, with pockets of standing water and thick stands of understory vegetation. The objective is to chip or grind all vegetation along a corridor that is approximately 16 feet wide. The contractor shall use mechanized equipment to cut and chip or grind the vegetation which WILL NOT remove the vegetative root mat, nor create any ruts in the soil. The understory vegetation slash remains on-site, and is evenly distributed so that the slash does not exceed one (1) foot in height. The contractor shall implement and adhere to the Forestry Best Management Practices for Water Quality in Maryland. Equipment is restricted to low ground pressure of 4 psi or less. Work shall be completed within one year of the notice to proceed. A PRE-BID SITE VISIT is recommended to satisfy contractors as to all local conditions. The pre-bid visit is scheduled for Tuesday, January 4, 2005. Bidders shall meet at the Chesapeake Marshlands NWR Complex Office, 2145 Key Wallace Drive, Cambridge, Maryland 21613. Point of contact is Gerald Vickers at 410-228-2692 ext. 123. The NAICS Code for this project is 115310. This is a small business set-aside procurement. The size standard is $6 million. All requests for the IFB package must be submitted in writing to the address above to the attention of Marsha Browning. Requests may be faxed to 413-253-8450. Requests must include the name of the company, address, telephone and FAX numbers and a point of contact and should reference the IFB number 501815B002. Issue date will be o/a December 17, 2004. The bid package is due at the above address on January 19, 2005 not later than 2:00pm.
