- The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) plans to procure a Scientifica Ltd., compact motorized three axis motorized manipulator and moving top-plate, model number MTP-3600-00. This acquisition will be conducted under the procedures for acquiring commercial items authorized in FAR Part 12 and the authority to use simplified procedures for commercial requirements provided in FAR 13.5. This acquisition will be set-aside for one-hundred percent total small businesses. The North American Industry Classification System code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The following salient characteristics apply to the Scientifica, Ltd. motorized manipulator: Model number MTP-3600-00; 1) Motorized three axis manipulator, 2) Fully programmable computer controlled, 3) 25mm of total travel with resolution of 0.1 micrometer, 4) Ultra low noise stand alone linear controller, 5) Interpolated fourth approach axis, 6) Full robotic control and, 7) Sliding bracketing system with rotation to aid quick pipette exchange. The following salient characteristics are applicable to moving top-plate: 1) Manual moveable top plate platform, 2) 25mm or greater total travel in X and Y, 3) Ultra low vibration bearings - low friction precision cross roller bearings to minimize mechanical vibration, 4) Rugged design to prevent vibrations during movement - single structure design of MTP-3600-00 is required to prevent instability and vibration during movements. Vibration shall be low enough so that a stable patch-clamp recording can be maintained during movement, 5) Designed for combining electrophysiology with confocal or multiphoton microscopy and, 6) X-Y moving platform on very high specification. The manipulator and moveable top plate shall be compatible with the Olympus BX51WI Microscope. In addition, the instrument must measure 550mm-650mm wide, 300-375mm deep and 180mm-250mm high.
